The campaign takes place in ancient Greece and Asia Minor, with four playable factions left at the player’s disposal: Athens, Sparta, Corinth, and Boeotia, with each nation having its own weak and strong points. It was a conflict between coalitions led by Athens and Sparta, sparked from conspiracy by Corinth and Boeotia as a result of already very tense political situation in the Hellenic world – the direct aftermath of the destructive Persian invasion.

The third expansion takes us to the oldest historical period ever recreated in Total War series, since we begin our struggle in 432 B.C., in the initial years of the Second Peloponnesian War. Once again, Creative Assembly and SEGA are the developer/distributor duo responsible for the game. Wrath of Sparta for PC is the third large expansion for Total War: Rome II - the base title that has been released in September 2013.
